As the older population is increasing, aging is becoming a individual and social problem. Dementia elderly needs long term care from their family and therefore they often enter a skilled nursing facility. The sample of the study is five dementia elderly people who entered RCFE(Residental care Facility for the Elderly) and skilled nursing facility in LA. The purpose of the study, depending on the decision makers, is to explore how dementia elderly emotionally and psychologically experiences and adjust to the environment of the facility. Phenomenology, qualitative approach, re-construes experiences of participants, finds the nature of the problems embedded in the environment, explains and translates their experiences the way it is. Van Mannen(2000) employed four factors of phenomenology to analyze the experiences, to categorize the data collected from the interview, to explore the meaning of the experiences and to draw the nature of the phenomenon reflected in the environment. First, the result found that the people who entered the nursing home by themselves, showed more psychological stability and actively adjusted to the environment of the nursing facility. Furthermore, the study found that they gave the members positive energy and expressed camaraderie. Second, the result presented that a participant who entered the nursing home by their family members, showed anxiety due to low self-esteem and feeling of doubt about their past life. Moreover, they showed rejection towards their families¡¯ visits and did not fit in with the others of the nursing home. Third, the findings indicated that participants who entered the nursing home recommended by the Korean American Dementia Center and Western Adult Day Health care Center, are christians with long beliefs in christ. They showed positive attitude and believed that everything is god¡¯s will, however they are stubborn and did not cooperate with the members in chores of the nursing home. The study further found that they were emotionally and psychologically stable but relied their everything on the other members¡¯will. Finally, the finding presented that to adjust the problems in diverse environment, willingness of the dementia elderly should be first and respected when they entered the nursing home.
